About the study

Returning to work following completion of cancer treatment is considered an important recovery milestone for women with breast cancer. However, many women with breast cancer report that they are unable to return to work following treatment due to the impact of cancer and treatment-related symptoms.

Women with breast cancer have identified the need for guidance and support to manage these symptoms and difficulties.

CanWork is a six-week online programme developed to provide women with breast cancer with skills to manage physical and psychological symptoms in work and knowledge of their legal and financial entitlements related to work.

This study is to determine how effective the CanWork programme is for women with breast cancer in supporting them to return to work.

What’s Involved in Taking Part?

This study is for women with breast cancer who were in paid employment (full or part-time) prior to cancer treatment and have completed chemotherapy or surgery within the last 12 months.

The 6-week online CanWork programme will aim to support women with breast cancer manage post-treatment health-related difficulties in work and to provide knowledge of work-related entitlements.

Participants are asked to complete questionnaires when they enrol in the study, after the intervention, and 3/6/12 months after the programme is completed.

Participants are also asked to take part in a focus group following the 6-week intervention, to discuss their experiences and opinions.

A sample of women will also have the opportunity to take part in a 1-to-1 interview with a member of the research team at each time point.

Benefits of Taking Part In The Study

By taking part in this study, you are helping develop research on cancer survivorship in Ireland. This research may provide evidence of the effectiveness of the 6-week online CanWork Program in supporting women with breast cancer to return to work. If the CanWork program is found to be effective, we hope that it will be available through all community cancer support centres nationally for women with breast cancer.

In addition, all women that take part in our study will receive a payment at every data collection point (immediately after the 6-week online programme, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after the programme is completed) as a thank you for being involved in the study.

Our partnership

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

My pricing

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Let’s get started on your healing journey

Be clear, be confident, and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. The latter will take care of itself. It always does.
